Alicia Povey
Alicia started playing football at a young age, joining a local team before making the move to Wycombe Wanderers Ladies FC at the age of 15.
She moved up into open age football at the age of 16 with the team winning back-to-back promotions in the subsequent seasons. When she finished school, Alicia moved to Spain for a year, representing Monóvar Atlético Femenino during the 2014/15 season. Alicia then began studying for her degree at the University of Bath, representing them in both their performance football squad and futsal squad at the top level of university sport. Studying Spanish and Russian as her degree, Alicia took the opportunity to play abroad again. She played for CE Vila Olimpica in Barcelona, and WFC Zvezda (beach football) in Saint Petersburg before returning to Bath to complete her studies. Following a brief spell in the FA Women’s National League, Alicia re-signed with Wycombe Wanderers mid-way through the 2019/20 season. As well as playing football for Wycombe, Alicia also represents Reading Royals Futsal Club in the FA Women’s Super Series – England’s top level futsal league.
Alongside her playing career, Alicia is also a keen football writer.
She’s highly involved in writing about women’s football locally, and sharing her personal experiences more generally. You can find some of her published articles on the Talking WoSo [1] and Football in Berkshire [2] websites.
